By: Dayne Morrison

Black Lion - Real revolutionary

Hailing from Montego Bay, St. James, Black Lion is both a profound and prolific writer with a sense of duty to educate and uplift his people through music. According to the musician, he sees the music as a universal message; not limited by or to his religious beliefs.

Born as Kenroy Williams the humble Rastafarian is no stranger to the Roots scene and has a message for the world with hit singles like 'Push, Lady Push', 'Better Place', and 'I Know'.

Over the last couple years his explosive performances have captivated many an audiences from Reggae Sumfest and Reggae Sunsplash concert and crowds in the United States, Canada and Europe.

From a very tender age, the young Lion worked with Kangol International, a local sound system from his native Montego Bay. At age 10, he recorded his first single 'Sit Still' for Rock Stone Productions.

Upon moving to Kingston the artist converted to Rastafarianism and with it changed his name from Black Mice, to the more impressive sounding, Black Lion. His first recording under his new faith 'Grow Your Locks', was released in 1995 before falling under the mentorship of Beres Hammond.

Currently he is interested in branching out and crossing over into markets. He names Outkast, T.I., Busta Rhymes and Carl Thomas as some of the artists he wants to collaborate with.
