'A Diamond in the rough
'
'Jevar' also known as 'Diamond Demarco' is in hot
pursuit of his dream to becoming one of Jamaica's
top and well-known entertainers.
This talented young man is a lover of the ladies
and his smooth and cool demeanor is a contrast to
the energy that is evident in his music.
Born April 18, 1980, Oneil Burrell he attended the
Haile Selassie Comprehensive High School in St. Andrew,
after which he furthered his education at Excelsior
Community College (EXCED).
In his younger years, he dabbled in the performing
arts, acting in a play held at the Ward Theatre called
'Armed and Dangerous', among others. Oneil adapted
his stage name from his birthstone, the Diamond. His
inspiration for deciding to do music professionally
is his son, Jevar, the name under which he is recording.
An embarrassing moment came in 1997 at the Asylum
Nightclub.
"It was a Thursday night up in da mad house.
Mek some talk and the crowd go wild. But hear wah
now, me have the right talk but the wrong tune!"
he said laughing as he recalled the moment.
"Is a tune bout some girl weh scratch and pat
dem head cause it waah wash. The girl dem get mad
and start throw cup and all kinda things pon me!"
Jevar recovered from that experience by going back
the other night, where he says he gave a great performance.
A more memorable time was at a Coco Loco in New Kingston
where Jevar gave, what he says was, an exceptional
performance that brought the house down and had the
audience wanting more.
Diamond has written many songs for the likes of Alozade,
Danny English and Jimmy Riley. He has released two
singles 'Tek Di Video Light' and 'Getting Older' -
in collaboration with Naptali Arafat. He is also plans
to launch his 'Infamus' brand clothing line.
