GINJAH

I-Land Links with Urban Culcha
Kingston, Jamaica based Reggae singer, songwriter and now record label entrepreneur Ginjah, and his business partner Clayton Whyle are in the process of launching their own I-Land Music Entertainment company by joining forces with NYC based marketing and distribution company Urban Culcha/SONY BMG.

I-Land's debut release will be the much anticipated "Music Alone" album by Ginjah which features collaborations between Ginjah and Beres Hammond.

I-Land and Urban Culcha Share Roots
"This is the perfect start to the new year," declares the beaming and confident Ginjah. "I've had several label offers for my "Music Alone" album, but I truly believe that the future of Reggae - and for that matter the future of music in general - is in recording artists taking not only a stronger stance musically by following their personal musical vision, but also in taking a responsible and active role in handling their own business affairs". The label head/artist adds "that's why I've chosen to start my own label and Urban Culcha has the right vibes, mentality and business reach to help I-Land get the job done".

Ginjah's "Music Alone" release will hit the street March 27th in North America and the Caribbean, and a week later in Europe and Japan. Having been invited to be a part of Beres Hammond's Harmony House label, Ginjah began recording in 2000. And by 2001, he was on a tour opening for Beres Hammond several shows stretching across the major Caribbean cities, leaving behind a trail of satisfied patrons begging for more. "It was never an easy task opening for a musical icon like Beres Hammond," Ginjah admitted. "I went out there and did my best and met the challenge with full force."

Ginjah went on touring with Beres throughout the world, inclusive of places like Europe, Canada, the United States and Japan. In between extensive touring, he spent 2005 and 2006 crafting his much anticipated "Music Alone" album with the contributions of Reggae's music talent elite.

"Forming I-Land Music with Clayton was a natural progression for me" continues Ginjah, " and it was also a natural progression, as well as an honor, to have Beres bless my album by recording with me". Beres Hammond, a Reggae veteran has worked with some of the best in the business, including the Reggae queen Marcia Griffiths and cultural Dancehall king Buju Banton. Making it absolutely natural for Beres, this time around, to bless Reggae's rising prince - Ginjah - with his harmonious offerings. A blessing Ginjah recognizes is bestowed upon only the very best in the business, confirming once more that Ginjah is certainly among the best.

Urban Culcha's managing director Aranthes offered "we are extremely excited about our partnership with I-Land Music and Ginjah, not only because the "Music Alone" album is fiyah - it's an important music collection in that it is both artistically sophisticated and socially conscious - but we are equally fired up about working with an artist of Ginjah's caliber - a prince of the new generation of Reggae's rising stars who shares our love of Roots and Culcha wisdom, while taking the message and the music into the future".

Aranthes also acknowledged the importance of the role that new digital distribution, marketing channels and opportunities - specifically the internet and mobile areas - offer to Reggae artists in terms of capturing a global audience "Urban Culcha is dedicated to taking stars like Ginjah and Reggae music to the next level - the global arena - by creating a true partnership platform and infrastructure for the best talent and business practices to carve out Reggae's share of the brave new digital world".

Ginjah concluded by stating that he is "representing black liberation, black consciousness, and the teachings of Haile Selassie I, and my vision is that I-Land and Urban Culcha will trod together carrying the integrity of these flags high".
