Marlon Plunket, more popularly known as 'Kiprich',
is quite an interesting character. He described himself
as easy going, humble, fun, street-smart, and a serious
worker. He also noted that he's comfortable with the
way he is and that he would change nothing about himself.
Kiprich said that, from a tender age, he had a love
for music, but was more interested in law, as he found
criminal law to be interesting, and also because he
was always defending others. Not only did he find
it interesting, but he also went to England to study
law, but became discouraged due to the time period
and the cost to achieve this goal. He said that he
has plans to go back to school and advised all youths
to "stay in school and think about school. When
you graduate you can do your ting."
His entrance into the music business was quite interesting.
"I carry Chico to Freddy McGregor studio, and
mi see Tony Matheron a do a dub, so mi tell him mi
waan fi do a dub. So when the engineer hear mi voice,
him say, 'Wha, deh youth yah bad.' So we exchange
number, and one day dem call mi fi listen to a rhythm
and a so mi cum up wid 'Leggo di bwoy'," he related.
This was his first song, which he performed for the
first time at the Club Extreme in Portmore and at
'It's a party'.
"The first time mi hear mi song pan di radio,
mi call mi granny and everybody and tell dem, "
he said, laughing.
His style is a mixture of dancehall and R&B,
where he'll have a bit of humor and a storyline in
his songs. He's now with VP Records and Big Yard Production.
Like everyone else, he also noticed that cultural
songs has been the hit for quite some time now and
so he did two songs of that nature, 'Against crime'
and 'Peace'. He says there will be more of these songs,
but he won't overdo it, as it was dancehall music
that got him to where he is today.
Kiprich has had the opportunity to work with various
local and international artistes, and when asked about
how he felt when working with 'Elephant Man', he responded,
"Well 'Ele' full a vibes. Mi love work wid him,
and is like di two a wi a di same, cause him full
a vibes and me full a vibe, so a just mad ting."
As you all know, his latest single 'Telephone' has
been getting a lot of good air play, but I bet you
didn't know that it is in fact a true story of what
happened to him. Yes, it is and you can look out for
'Telephone part 2' after Sumfest.
His views on the 'outrage' situation was "Mi
nuh business wid dem, cause mi granny use to tell
me seh every tub siddung pan dem own battam, so if
dem nuh si weh dem a do, and know sey it wrong and
stop, well dat a go be fi dem problem judgement day."
Ladies, Kippo is single! Yes, he is. His telephone
cost him his girl, so he's back on the market. He
has a daughter, and he likes eating steamed fish with
crackers. His colours of choice are blue and white
and he enjoys clubbing and going to Heineken Star
time.
He is scheduled to appear on a number of shows like
Teenfest, and Sumfest, and has toured Miami, St. Vincent,
around the Caribbean tour, and many more. He says
respect to artistes like Bennie Man, Shabba Ranks,
and Jah Cure for their work ethics.
The sky is the limit for dancehall. It is definitely
going places. Bob done bring it to a level aready,
and other artistes and miself a do some good work,
so it sure fi reach far." Many share his view.
He would like to work with Usher, Lil John, Berch,
and Rock Wilders in the future. His plans for the
upcoming times are to continue making more hits, having
his own business enterprise, and he's also interested
in being a producer.
Things are definately looking bright for this entertainer
and they will continue to do so because he has the
attitude, the inner motivation, and the knowledge
to reach for the stars.
