Mark
Wonder
By: Kerry-Ann Bercher, Go-Local Writer
Mark Andrew Thompson, and for 'performing vibrations',
'Mark Wonder',
is a man with a positive purpose. This very roots
performer grew up with his mom who always had music
playing in the home.
Mark Wonder, who takes his name from his greatest
musical inspiration, Stevie Wonder, grew up in Kingston.
At the age of 5, he moved from Kingston to Manchester,
where he resided for 7 years. He moved back to Kingston
at the age of 12.
The early stages of his musical career saw him doing
a cover version of 'Ain't That Loving You' with
Miguel Collins aka Sizzla Kalonji, and 'Equal
Rights' by The Heptones in the early 90's.
His first album was released by a Holland based recording
company (now defunct) called Zolan Zola. The big hit
and title track 'Signs of The Times', 'Lead The
Way Jah' and 'Let Me Not Be Ashamed' were
the three singles released from that album. To date,
he has 6 albums and has released several singles.
Mark Wonder takes the inspiration for his songs,
which are all original, from everyday life, social
commentary and his beliefs as a Rastafarian. Although
currently signed to Soundproof Records, he is working
on several singles and an album, which will come out
late April of early May. A new company will release
the album, which has been dubbed 'Battle Axe', produced
by him. His next major performance will be at the
Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in Boonville,
California on June 22 - 24.
Mark Wonder's new album 'Break The Ice' is
produced by Sound Proof Productions and is released
by Redbridge Music from the UK and distributed through
Jet Star and Pinnacle. 'Roots' is a fitting word to
describe this 17 track album featuring the likes of
Gentleman, Anthony B, Daddy Rings, Taffari and
Skatta. Producers who contributed to this project
include Special Delivery Music, AL.TA.FA.AN,
Addis Records, Trinity Records and Acoustic
Vibes, the label that he co-produce with his colleague
Christopher Briggs. His latest single 'Rainbow
Child (Raggy Joe)
is being heavily rotated on television and
radio. You can expect much greater things from Mark
Wonder as he spreads his positive messages through
his music.
