MENACE
THE MESSIAH
By: Kerry-Ann Bercher, Go-Local Jamaica Writer.
Music is in his blood
From a tender age, music was his first love. Christopher
Jennis, aka 'Menace the Messiah', had a very musical
childhood. During his years at Basic and Primary Schools
(Waterford and Portsmouth), Christopher would 'build
a vibes' with his fellow schoolmates, making rhythms
and songs, and singing the popular songs of the time.
He enjoyed this a lot, but it was not until he entered
Waterford Comprehensive High that he began to take
his musical talents more seriously.
While growing up, his brother owned a sound system,
and together they held shows on Tuesday nights in
their community, where he learned to expand his talent
and 'done a riddim' like the other DJs.
In preparation for a performance, he decided to flip
the script on Lady Saw's song, "If The Man Leff".
The response was very encouraging. His current manager
and childhood friend, Jason Grant, decided from that
time that he would sign him and give him a start toward
his musical endeavours.
Christopher was a part of the Eclipse Crew that began
in 1995. They performed at venues such as the Cactus
Night Club and Mirage. However, after a while, things
took a downward spiral and the crew broke up a short
while after.
Trying to gain as much exposure as he could, Menace
entered the Portmore Black Music Talent Search in
2005 and came second to the now very popular Reggae
artiste, Gyptian. Since then, he was booked for shows
such as Sting '98 and Carnival at Mas Camp. The year
2006 saw Christopher taking his work as an artiste
even more seriously.
He has chosen the genre of culture as a vehicle to
bring across his message and his music, which he does,
with his children in mind. Menace the Messiah is all
about positivity, righteousness, and 'More Life'.
