Twenty-year-old Kenroy Walker, also known as 'Roy
Dip', is a past student of Bridgeport High School.
He is now a member of 'the John squad' (a group of
dancers), and has been dancing and inventing dance
moves for approximately two years.
He got his inspiration when he began to notice that
he had the talent. Soon persons around him started
encouraging him.
However, Kenroy's first ambition was to become a
mechanic and then a sportsman, as he liked track &
field and football.
Nevertheless, this young dancer said that he is satisfied
with his career now, but due to the death of dance
icon, 'Bogle' earlier this year, he had to cool down
a little. "Because dem put the blame on us, is
jus crazy ting. Cause dem wrongfully blame we, so
more time we want mek couple move, but nuh badda,"
he said.
When asked what he would change about dancehall,
he replied, "Me woulda love fi see di gun ting
cut out. Man fi stop come a dance with gun."
This young man earned his way into 'the John squad'
through his close friendship with 'Shankle Dip' and
'Shelly Belly', who are also members of 'the John
squad'. "Me and dem always a roll and dem see
seh me can dance," he said.
Like a true dancer, he has invented a new dance move,
called 'diggy diggy', which he demonstrated for Da
Flex with much enthusiasm. Holding his crotch, he
knocked both heels together and moved his waist in
a 'jooking' motion. The name 'diggy diggy' was already
established, as a part of the lyrics of 'John Hype's
debut song, 'Roses mi did deh': "and a we diggy
diggy in a di
" This line sparked the idea
for his dance move. "Well, mi did a listen to
the music and mi just start dance," he explained.
He had previously invented a dance move called 'Draw
di dip', which he has performed at local events like
the Eclipse pool party, among others.
Kenroy is about to embark on a trip to Bermuda with
his fellow dancer 'Shankle Dip'. When asked to give
his take on the dancehall industry, he responded,
"Well, di entataina dem can do dem ting, but
it still a go need di dansaz dem."
His plan for the future is to settle down with his
'real babes' and have kids, and also to 'catch up'
with the dancehall movement, because he had to lie
low, due to the 'incident'. He also told Da Flex that
there is much more to be expected of him, as he has
other dance moves in the making, so look out for more
from 'Roy Dip'.
