Turbulence

by Don-Reece Edwards

Currently, the entertainment industry has been experiencing "Turbulence" in the airwaves.

Sheldon 'Turbulence' Campbell was born in 1981 in Kingston, Jamaica. The 24-year-old is taking the Reggae world like a storm, becoming Jamaica's leading conscious singjay in his time.

His affection for the music began while attending St. Andrew Technical High School in Kingston. Turbulence would beat desks at school like many other young entertainers, displaying his talent among his classmates. His talent was acknowledged and encouraged by his peers.

Growing up, his inspiration came from veterans, such as the legendary Bob Marley, Garnet Silk, Jacob Miller, Eddie Fitzroy, and Peter Tosh. Sizzla Kalonji, Jah Cure, his older cousin, Norris Man, Luciano, and Mikey General are his current inspirations.

Producer Phillip 'Fatis' Burrell, owner of X-Terminator, who is also responsible for working with inspirational artistes, such as Sizzla Kalonji, Sly and Robbie, Luciano, Prince Malachi, and LMS, first discovered Turbulence.

An elderly Rastafarian, who saw him performing at a stage show under the name 'Double Trouble', gave him the name, 'Turbulence'. He dubbed him that name, because of the way in which Turbulence's performance impacted the patrons. The singer's strength lies in his powerful vocals, similar to that of Sizzla Kalonji's style.

Turbulence moved from beneath the wings of his mentor, Sizzla Kalonji, who was responsible for exposing him on his Real Thing tour, and appeared as an opening act on the tour. From the tour, he gained a great deal of interest and built a reputation for himself. He eventually found his way and succeeded in honing his voice. His unique musical style encompasses dancehall and rap.

He has released 13 albums: The Truth, Hail to the King, The Future, Different Thing, After All, Rising, Join Us, Love Selassie1, Once Upon a Time - Selassie is My Guide, Teachers, Turbulence, Triumphantly, and Turbulence - Songs of Solomon.

Despite being a member of X-Terminator, he has worked with various record labels both locally and internationally, some of which are Kings of Kings, One Love, Tuff Gong, Cilcha Lee, Ming 7, Fiat 5, Kariang, Cell Block, Scorpio, and Mixing Lab.

For the future, Turbulence will focus more on singing , and less on deejaying, with the intention of bringing his listeners songs of love , truth. and positiveness.
