The name 'Wranglaz
Krew'
was a spontaneous idea that came to the
minds of the three members of the group -Skaboom,
Granny Boy and Iyahtola. The name actually came from
the Jeep Brand - 'Wrangler' and the brand of Jeans
- 'Wrangler Jeans'. However, to make it their own
they tweaked and later became 'Wranglaz'. It was also
the name of the corner that they hang out on.
Wranglaz Krew have toured Jamaica, performing at
Kingston hotspots and were also apart of the line
up for last year's 'Fully Loaded'. They have writen
all their songs which include 'Some Gyal A Ol' Mummy',
recorded with Sly and Robbie, and 'Muss Buss', which
have all received airplay. They have also recorded
with dancehall artiste/producer Benzly Hype on his
newest rhythm called 'The Wash'.
SKABOOM
"Skaboom!" the onomatopoeia* taken from
the character 'Guile' in the popular video game 'Street
Fighter', is the stage name of this talented Wranglaz
Crew member.
'Skaboom', the singer of the group, was born August
24 as Shellec Bennett. He has loved music from 'him
eye deh at him knee'. "From the day me born,
them think a cry me a cry but a sing me a sing when
me mother birth me," he laughed.
Originally from Trench Town, Kingston he spent most
of his younger years living in Spanish Town where
he left all age School and continued at Jonathan Grant
High School. "Killa was my artiste from those
times, and is still my artiste now still. And because
I'm a singer, I took inspiration from Ghost, cause
he was the singer in those times too," said Skaboom
of the artists that he learned from.
Skaboom enjoys hanging out at the studio or at home
and loves chicken with dumpling, bananas and yam.
