The Mayor of Port Antonio, Floyd Patterson, is raising concerns that blocked drains in Portland could lead to major flooding if the current rain persists.
Intermittent rains have been lashing the eastern parishes of Portland and St Mary for the past two days causing problems in some communities.
According to Mayor Patterson, Portland is not adequately prepared to respond.
He said last year the Portland Parish Council did not receive any money from the Local government department to carry out drain cleaning.
Up to late last night, the National Works Agency (NWA) had only managed to clear one of two major roadblocks in East Portland.
The NWA team managed to clear the roadblock at Norwich.
However, the second blockage at Breast Works could not be cleared because heavy-duty equipment was needed.
Mayor Patterson said a house is in danger of collapsing in Breast Works because of a breakaway.
Yesterday, there was widespread flooding in the Rio Grande valley communities of Mill Bank, Comfort Castle, Moore Town, Barracks and Bellevue.
More than six houses were reportedly flooded in Canoe Pond near Oracabessa and a section of the main road has given way.
One house was reported to be under two feet of water at one stage late yesterday, while a bridge at Eden Park was on the verge of collapsing.
It has been reported that repairs to the bridge were promised last year, but they were not carried out.
