A new multi-million dollar community centre, which will serve the New Green, Battersea, Clarks Town and several adjoining communities in Manchester, was officially opened recently.
Located near the New Green road-a-bout off the Winston Jones Highway, the centre boast a conference room on the lower and upper floors, which also has a viewing balcony.
It is also equipped with modern bathrooms and food preparation facilities as well as a multipurpose playing field.
Funding was secured through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) by Member of Parliament for northwest Manchester, Dean Peart, who started the project approximately three years ago.
“The building cost in excess of $10 million to construct,” said Mrs. Pauline Scott-Blair.
Minister of State in the Department of Local Government, Honorable Robert Montaque, who attended the opening, challenged the residents to take care of the facility so that it can serve many generations.
Reverend Oliver Daley of Ridgemount United Church dedicated the facility.
Others in attendance included former attorney John Junor, Dr, Herbert Thompson of Northern Caribbean University, Mayor Brenda Ramsay and MP Michael Peart.
