NHT gears up for refunds applications, more housing and social solutions get underway
(Dec-30-2010)

The National Housing Trust (NHT) is encouraging employers to pay up NHT contributions and to submit their annual returns as this will allow smooth processing of contributions refund to their employees in 2011. Also The NHT is working to deliver or start construction on a number of housing solutions across the island. Further, as the NHT continues social development efforts across the island, the NHT met with residents of Providence Heights, St. James, and the NHT Scheme at Palm Grove Courts benefits from Beautification project. Also, a number of NHT sponsored environmental groups entered a United Nations of Biodiversity Painting Competition.

Employers... Help your employees submit Annual Returns for 2003

Employers, we need your help to successfully process applications for Contributions Refund for 2003, which are due for payment to eligible NHT contributors as of January 1, 2011. If you still have outstanding Annual Returns for 2003, we urge you to send them to us immediately.
While the majority of employers have already submitted Annual Returns for 2003, our records indicate that there are some employers who may not have done so.  Please check our website at
www.nht.gov.jm to see if your name appears on the list of companies with outstanding annual returns. Help us to help your employees claim their refunds without difficulties, as we aim to provide them with satisfying customer experiences.

Suspension of Contribution Refund Applications Until January

We would also like to advise our Contributors that Contributions Refund Application facility has been unavailable since December 20, 2010 as we upgrade our systems for the processing of the 2003 refunds which are due during the 2011 application period. We will therefore resume accepting applications on January 1, 2011. We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause.

Upcoming Scheme Schedule
The NHT is working to deliver or start construction on a number of housing solutions across the island. Three schemes were completed in 2010, five schemes are under construction, and 16 schemes begin construction between December 2010 and April 2012. 

Now being offered on the market
The Trust recently published the names of persons short-listed to be interviewed for loans to buy one and two-bedroom houses and studio units at Bushy Park Phase 2, Clarendon. Also, the NHT is inviting applications for Four (4) Three-bedroom Townhouses at Paddington Glades, a gated community located approximately 1 kilometre west of the junction of Paddington Terrace and Croydon Avenue.

Social Development Update
The NHT meets with Providence Heights residents
The NHT’s Social Development Unit arranged a community meeting with 167 residents of Providence Heights, St. James during the month of October. They were sensitized about the need to keep up to date with their mortgage payments, and of the NHT’s policies regarding arrears.

The officers also advised them of Self-Development Training projects sponsored by the NHT for the residents. Also, the NHT partnered with the Registrar General Department (RGD) the National Health fund (NHF) and PATH to organize an Opportunities Fair for the residents in their community on November 28.

NHT sponsored Environmental Club gives Palm Grove Court a facelift
The Palm Grove Court Housing Scheme at 231 Spanish Town Road got a face-lift on Saturday, October 16. This clean-up exercise was organized by the Scheme’s NHT sponsored Environmental Club which partnered with the resident Youth Club and Strata Corporation. They will continue to beautify the area by planting trees. 

Environmental protection awareness 
The United Nations General Assembly has declared 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity, and has sponsored a painting competition through the United Nations Environment Programme Caribbean Regional Coordinating Unit (UNEP-CAR/RCU) to mark the occasion.  Six (6) NHT sponsored environmental Clubs participated in the competition. The clubs were from: Cherry Gardens, Caribbean Palms, Delacree Park, Unions Estates, Royal Place and Falmouth Gardens.
The theme of the painting competition was “Protecting the Biodiversity of our Caribbean Sea”, and children across Jamaica, from ages eight to fourteen, were invited to participate.    A number of activities have been planned globally for children to increase their awareness of ecosystems and get them involved in their protection. 

Call Centre now offering LIVE HELP via the NHT Website
The NHT now offers a Live Help Support system which takes the format of a web chat with its team of Customer Care agents. Live support can be accessed via the NHT corporate website during office opening hours by users locally as well as those overseas.
