"Outrage", the Short shorts event!

(Dec-29-2003)

It was an energy-filled, eye-dazzling, short-shorts event that rocked the University of the West Indies, Mona campus all night on Friday, September19, 2003.

The annual event, put on by Taylor hall, saw hundreds of persons flocking towards the venue, even to the point where tickets at the gate became dangerously limited. As a matter of fact, when I got to the venue at some minutes to one in the morning, I heard someone from inside the ticket booth saying, "nuh more space nuh inside a student union!"

When I finally pierced the thick crowd gathered by the ticket booth, and scuffled my way through to the inside, the vibes immediately hit me. Two dance floors; one to the front as you entered the student's union, and the other dance floor towards the back of the union. On the dance floor closest to the entrance, there was a make-shift foam pit, where only a few patrons had dared to enter, as they ran the risk of getting their expensive hairstyles wet, or for the guys, their expensive white sneakers messed up.

Selectors for the night had very little work to do in terms of building a vibes, as patrons who turned out in their numbers, were only too excited to party the night away, while sipping on some complementary red stripe before midnight. On the first dance floor, were Razz and Biggy and D.J. Arif Cooper from the FAME team, while the copper shot crew and Renaissance disco had a field time on the second dance floor.

Patrons, at times, were left in a frenzy, as they unsuccessfully tried to judge which dance floor had more vibes. For some, they had to be walking too and fro, as both floors seemed to be selecting hits after hits. If for example, one dance floor were to be playing the latest in dancehall hits, the other would probably have their floor locked to the tunes of the latest hip hop. The choice was next to impossible!

Some of the fashion that patrons turned out to the event in, were also head-spinning as well as mind-boggling! Mi nuh know why some a dem girls never jus come naked an done! But anyways, tha party must go on. For most females who attended, the order of the day was SHORT shorts and impy skimpy tops, while guys dressed light in the usual jeans and t-shirt, while some just settled with wearing their sweats.

Nuff whining, nuff gyrating, nuff of everyting else...you know! Passing through the party was popular dancer John Hype, as he was called on stage to display a few of his talented dance moves. This, patrons bundled over each other, just to get a glimpse of.

The party came to a halt at around 3:30 a.m, as officers were already on the outside, waiting patiently for promoters to comply with the 3am lock-off time, which had been previously extended.

Taylor hall's short shorts party was definitely a hit for the hundreds of patrons that attended, and sure enough, not a soul was heard complaining about their $400 entry fee going down the drain!
