Jamaica Standard Products Company Limited
The Jamaica Standard Products Company (JPS) located in the cool quiet hills of Williamsfield in Manchester, is one of Jamaica’s oldest coffee companies. They export roughly 123,200 pounds of coffee a year to the local retail, supermarket. This high volume of coffee export places JSP as the single largest producer of roasted and ground coffee in Jamaica.
Operated for 3 generations by members of the Minott family, JSP is renowned in Jamaica and on the international scene for producing the world’s finest coffee. Wallenford, billed as the premium brand of the world’s finest coffee, the excellent Baronhall Estate Coffee, which is ’grown and processed with tender loving care’ by JSP in the cool mountains of Clarendon and Manchester; and High Mountain Coffee which is popular for it’s ’strong body’.
The birth of Jamaica Standard Products was September 17, 1942, and the proud founder was Mr. Leslie Minott. He started the company trading in items such as goatskins, coconut, sarsaparilla, honey, ginger and coffee. In 1952 when the coffee market gained popularity, the company changed direction of business from produce to manufacturing. A coffee factory was started to produce the renowned High Mountain coffee. Mr. L. Minott died in 1972 and his younger son Jackie Minott took over the management of the company and began exporting coffee across the globe.
Today Jamaica Standard Products (JSP), has evolved into a modern coffee processing factory complete with state-of-the art equipment and technology as well as meeting the required standards of such efficient manufacturing entities world-wide. They have 200 permanent workers, but employ hundreds of temporary workers to pick berries.
Other products manufactured by JPS include coffee liqueur, peppermint and cerasee tea, Jamaican curry powder, hot curry sauce, dried jerk seasoning, all spice, mixed spice, ground ginger, jerk marinade, scotch bonnet, hot sauce, and jerk sauce.
