Three Nights of Rocking Reggae!
(Mar-19-2007)
IT WILL BE MASSIVE!
That's how FAS Entertainment is describing the large number of top international performers the promotions company has booked so far for April's Reggae On The Hill and associated events of the 2007 Digicel Barbados Reggae Festival.
The list, which reads like a Who's Who of reggae headliners, includes Grammy Award winners Steel Pulse, Beres Hammond, Sean Paul, Buju Banton, Maxi Priest, Sizzla, Dobbie Dobson, Richie Spice, Boris Gardiner, Biggie Irie, Ken Booth and Fab Five Band.
FAS Entertainment director Al Gilkes said the festival has been increased from the previous two to three nights of spectacular events. He said it was also designed to ensure that Barbados delivers the best ever, on and off the field, during the period surrounding the climax of the World Cup when more than 20 000 visitors are expected to be on the island.
The opening event is scheduled for Sunday, April 22, and takes the form of a first-of-a-kind Reggae By The Beach Concert And Party on Lower Bay Street, in association with the Boatyard and the new Whispers restaurant.
Sean Paul and Maxi Priest will headline that event, which starts at 4 p.m. and runs until midnight.
The Plantation Garden Theatre will be the partner and venue for the second event on Saturday, April 28, and will see two favourites, the Vintage Reggae Show And Dance and the popular monthly Boogie Night, being fused to provide another one-of-a-kind spectacle for all fans.
This event starts at 9 p.m. and the performers confirmed to date include Boris Gardiner, Ken Booth, Dobbie Dobson and the Fab Five Band, who will be joined by popular local stars of both genres of music.
The 2007 Reggae Festival climaxes on Sunday, April 29, with the biggest attraction – the all-day Reggae On The Hill concert, picnic and party at Farley Hill National Park in St Peter.
The non-stop entertainment will start pumping from 11 a.m. and will see Britain's legendary and internationally renowned Steel Pulse band sharing the stage with the ever-popular "Uncle Beres" Hammond, Buju Banton, Sizzla, Richie Spice, Barbados' own star Biggie Irie, and a host of other local bands and singers.
Gilkes said the festival would be officially launched next week with advanced tickets for all three events going on sale mid-March.
