President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, Senator Norman Grant is urging the Government to set up a special catastrophe Insurance Scheme for commodity crops such as vegetables.
He said Banana and Coconut farmers already have their Insurance Fund to assist them in times of disaster and that the Government should support the establishment of similar schemes for domestic crops.

Senator grant said that although Jamaica is already a participant in the CARICOM Disaster Fund it is important that the country establish a Disaster Insurance Fund specific to its own needs.
